Edouard Martell launched Martell Cordon Bleu at the Hôtel de Paris 100 years earlier. Martell bleu (“˜blue’) is a nod to house founder Jean Martell’s seafaring forebears and his own early career in the indigo trade.
In choosing to call it Cordon Bleu Edouard Martell broke away from the conventions of the time, which consisted of combining the name of the House with the Cognac’s quality.
We’ll bring you a special Picture Gallery of the event later in the week, together with further coverage in The Moodie Report e-Zine.
100 YEARS IN A BOTTLE
To celebrate its centenary, Martell has dressed up its Cordon Bleu bottle in a special edition entirely decked out in blue, which pays tribute to the emblematic colour of the House.
The silver insignia of the centenary, the seal, the neck and cap emphasise the bottle’s deep, luminous blue. The limited edition is presented in a silver-chequered gift box adorned with Cordon Bleu’s key dates, and comes with a montre – a miniature bottle traditionally reserved for cellar masters’ tastings.

This contains a selection of old eaux-de-vie specially blended by Martell cellar master Benoît Fil and originating exclusively from the Borderies – the idiosyncratic cru in the Cognac region that confers on Cordon Bleu its complex, elegant, floral character.
