Maui Jim Hawaiian dancers performed and handed out leis during a three-day promotion, designed to raise visibility of the sunglasses category and of the brand at the new Orlando International Airport Airside 4 retail area opened by The Nuance Group in association with DFASS in mid-December.
Maui Jim Travel Retail Manager Americas Silvana Garcia said: “This colourful event with music, dancers and a GWP with every purchase of Maui Jims really created a festival atmosphere at Orlando Airport. The Nuance team was very supportive, everyone had fun and sunglasses got a big boost.”
The brand introduced two additions to its “˜On the Water Collection’, designed according to Maui Jim, for men and women who “love to live life on the water” during the promotion.
World Cup, named after the company’s win in the 2011 World Cup Blue Marlin fishing championship on the Maui Jim boat, was designed with input from the company’s top championship fishing and water sport ambassadors. The model maximise eye protection from the sun while providing enhanced comfort for long days on the water.
The lightweight, high-grade injected nylon frame is oversized to cover eyes fully with wider temples to block light from the sides. World Cup offers “superior” optics through SuperThin (ST) Glass1 lenses in three colours: Neutral Grey, HCL Bronze or Maui HT2. The frames, in Matte Black Rubber, Chocolate Stripe Fade, Marlin and Matte Green Stripe Rubber, have anti-corrosive spring hinges and built-in embedded rubber nose pads for added stability.
Third Bay, named after the largest and most powerful of three surf breaks at Pohoiki Beach on Hawaii’s Big Island, has a wrap-around shape that is said to complement larger, oval faces. The unisex, lightweight, high-grade injected nylon frame has wider temples to block light from the sides. Its SuperThin Glass lenses come in two colours: Neutral Grey and HCL Bronze. The frames, in Black Gold or Matte Tortoise, have anti-corrosive spring hinges and built-in embedded rubber nose pads for long-wearing comfort.
Styles in the On The Water Collection offers bigger lenses, wide temples, snug fit, anti-corrosive, spring hinge hardware, oleophobic lens coatings to repel water and grease, scratch-resistant properties, a variety of lens materials for different water sports and four lens colours for various light conditions.
All Maui Jim sunglasses feature PolarizedPlus2 lens technology that the brand claims protects eyes on both sides of each lens. The brand says that this reduces 99.9% of harmful glare from any flat, smooth, or shiny surface, which makes it possible to see below the surface of water.
Maui Jim also claims its sunglasses cut 100% of UVA and UVB rays. Each style in the On The Water Collection offers “bi-gradient mirror technology” that adds protection from light through the top and bottom of each lens.

Maui Jim Director of Product Development Richard Walker added: “By the time a person turns the age of 60, their unprotected eyes will be exposed to as much UV light as a nuclear blast.
“For sportspeople who spend significant time around water, the reflections and glare from the sun’s rays bouncing off the waves enhance the risk of eye damage that can result in conditions that cause vision loss. Unfortunately, not all sunglasses afford the same protections from the sun. So, each style in our Collection uses technologies that are designed to work with your face size and shape to shield your eyes when enjoying time on a lake, river, stream or ocean,” he said.
Other styles in the On The Water Collection include Waimea Canyon, Voyager, Seawall, Blue Water, Surf Rider, Nine Palms, Dorado, Island Time, Canoes, Peahi, Longboard, Stingray, Akamai, Lagoon, Navigator, Offshore, Banyans and Olowalu. Three styles, Palms, Rainbow Falls and Punchbowl are specifically designed for women.
