Maui Jim has launched three new ultra-light designs, named after birds, as it gears up for the TFWA Asia Pacific exhibition in Singapore next week (stand number: K9).
Made of beta-titanium, the three rimless styles feature super-thin nose bridges and colourful, rubber-sheathed temples with distinctive disk hinges. Nose bridges are rubber-padded and adjustable for comfort.
They use MauiPure lenses, claimed to be the world’s clearest non-glass lenses that are also scratch- and impact-resistant. The lenses have waterproof and oleophobic coatings to shed water and repel grease and smudges.
Apapane takes its name from a Hawaiian honeycreeper, a small bird said to be known for its bright crimson feathers which adorned the capes, helmets and leis of Hawaiian nobility.
This delicate rimless style has a butterfly-shaped lens designed to flatter smaller faces. The lenses have MauiGradient tinting that is darker at the top of the lens and gradually gets lighter towards the bottom.
This style comes in three colours: Burgundy with Red Sleeve and Maui Rose lenses; Gold with Pink Sleeve and HCL Bronze lenses; and Dark Gunmetal with Black Sleeve and Neutral Grey lenses.

Sandhill, suitable for medium-sized faces with their rectangular lenses, is inspired by the elegance of cranes, embodied by their tall grey bodies, crimson caps and lithe movements.
The lenses have Maui Jim’s PolarizedPlus2 protection that is enhanced with the company’s patented bi-gradient mirrors that are darker at the top and bottom of each lens.
This style comes in three colours: Gunmetal Blue with Black Sleeve and Neutral Grey lenses, Gloss Dark Brown with Brown Sleeve and HCL Bronze, and Dark Gunmetal with Smoke Sleeve and Maui HT lenses that enhance vision in low-light conditions.

Modelled on frigate birds and their long wingspans, Maui Jim’s new Frigate sunglasses offer “a sleek stretch across wider faces”.
These sunglasses, with their MauiPure lenses, wrap the wearer’s eyes in protection to eliminate glare. The lenses also offer the added protection of bi-gradient mirrors.
Frigate is offered in Gunmetal Blue with Black Sleeve and Neutral Grey lenses, Gloss Dark Brown with Brown Sleeve and HCL Bronze, and Dark Gunmetal with Smoke Sleeve and Maui HT.

All Maui Jim lenses feature the company’s patented nine-layer PolarizedPlus2 technology which is said to cut 100% of UV rays and 99.9% of glare from above, below and behind each lens. Maui Jim also claims to be the only company to use three rare earth elements and other treatments to white-balance its lenses, resulting in true color vibrancy. PolarizedPlus2 technology also increases definition and depth perception.
All Maui Jim sunglasses are said to be recommended by The Skin Cancer Foundation as an effective UV filter for the eyes and surrounding skin.
Maui Jim’s more than 112 styles of sunglasses are backed by a two-year warranty from the date of purchase against any defect in materials and workmanship. Nose pads and temples are replaced for free, as long as the parts are available.
