US. Sung-Joo Kim, Chairperson & CEO of Sungjoo Group and owner of luxury leathergoods brand MCM, received a Corporate Honoree award from the Korean American Community Foundation in the US last month.
The award recognises distinguished global business leaders who contribute to the Asian community in America through works of philanthropy, volunteerism and compassionate leadership.
Sung-Joo Kim picked up the award at the foundation’s fifth annual gala dinner which was held at Chelsea Piers in New York on 20 October. Nearly 1,000 leaders from the worlds of business, politics, entertainment and community services attended.
Past galas and awards have featured United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and President of Dartmouth College Jim Yong Kim, among other distinguished speakers and honorees.
Washington State Senator Paull Shin gave the keynote speech and ABC News anchor JuJu Chang was present.
Founded in 2002, the Korean American Community Foundation has grown to become a trusted source of philanthropy within the Korean and Asian American communities. To date, it has made US$1.5 million in grants to community-based organisations working to improve lives and transform communities.
