GERMANY. MCM’s New York Collection aims to make a strong fashion statement for the Autumn/Winter 2011 season with six lines that exude luxury and sophistication, while at the same time dare to be different.
Created by renowned New York-based accessories designer Joy Gryson, this collection features exceptional design, style and good taste, according to the German brand.
A key design feature is the combination of different materials within the NY Visetos, NY Frame and NY Multiframe lines, broadening the offer and creating a wider price-point range.
NY Visetos goes one step further and combines Visetos with other materials, making for a striking silhouette. The line is offered either in all Cognac Visetos – MCM’s signature material – or an unusual combination of Visetos as the top half of the bag with either military green or black leather or beige pony as the body. Shapes include tote, satchel, drawstring and clutch mini.
NY Frame recreates the framed construction bag shapes reminiscent of the 1950s when style and elegance was everything, MCM said. The three shapes are clutch, medium satchel and large hobo, and aim to meet every occasion need. The bags come in soft black or mauve calf leather, and there is also a large hobo in brown pony tiger print. Retail prices start from €429 for a clutch to €683 for the large pony hobo.

NY Multiframe offers a collection of shapes that are designed for evening use: East/West clutch bags, Heart Shaped Clutch and Clutch – in leather, satin and sophisticated black acryl versions. Colour plays a role here, with satin options in black, silver, red and Champagne, while for extra glamour there is a crystal and black leather clutch. Retail prices start from €293 for the heart-shaped bags to €507 for the acryl East/West clutch and crystal and leather clutch.
Shape is the essence of NY Triangolo which, as its name suggests, offers a range of bordered calf leather bags designed with a triangular profile, featuring chunky hardware and leather or chain handles and straps. Black, dark brown and camel are the colour options for the clutch, medium satchel, tote, top handle and hobo, plus clutch with wrist strap and large or medium flap wallet. Retail prices start from €114 for a wallet to €507 for the tote and medium satchel.
For an ultra-soft and sophisticated day look, NY City offers a hobo, tote and zip satchel in lamb’s leather with colour choices including trendy grey, medium brown and black. Retail prices start from €270 for the hobo and €324 for the tote and satchel.
The casual NY Sportivo is described as easy to wear yet classy and stylish at the same time. Silhouettes include clutch, medium shoulder, flap satchel, mini and medium satchel, hobo and medium or large zipped wallet – all in soft lamb’s leather and distinguished with an embossed MCM logo border and buckle detail. Colourways remain on-trend with black, bordeaux and military green. Retail prices start from €98 for a wallet to €379 for the flap satchel.

Says MCM Global Travel Retail Manager Susanne Laible: “Joy Gryson brings an urban edge to MCM with the New York Collection. The bags are chic and stylish, yet with a fun and contemporary feel. But, like all MCM bags, they are designed with function and affordability in mind. Each line in the collection is very different, each distinguished by its own unique element, whether that’s mixing fabrics, buckle accents or hardware detailing. Whether it’s buttery smooth leather, embossed Visetos, pony or satin, all the bags are practical and lightweight – ideal for travellers the world over.”
