Moët Hennessy ends Brown-Forman’s Glenmorangie contracts; USA arm takes over – 28/07/05

US. Moët Hennessy and Brown-Forman Corp have announced an agreement to end the contracts by which Brown-Forman acts as the USA importer of Glenmorangie and represents those brands in Canada, Continental Europe and certain Asian countries. The contracts will conclude at the end of July.

LVMH-owned Moët Hennessy acquired The Glenmorangie Company at the beginning of 2005. In a statement, Moët Hennessy said that “although the agreements with Brown-Forman remained in force, both parties believe that it is in the interests of all concerned for Brown-Forman to sell their rights to Moët Hennessy”. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“We are proud of the work done by both Brown-Forman and our distributor partners in building Glenmorangie in the USA and key global markets into a premier single malt Scotch brand,” said Paul Varga, President and Chief Executive Officer of Brown-Forman Beverages.

“However, we understand Moët Hennessy’s desire to consolidate these excellent brands into their own distribution system,” he added.

Christophe Navarre, CEO and President of Moët Hennessy, said: “Brown-Forman has been a very good partner for The Glenmorangie Company over the years and the brands have prospered through this association. Now that Glenmorangie is part of Moët Hennessy it is natural that the brands should be distributed through our companies in all the markets where we operate.”
