Montegrappa unveils limited edition pen designed by Sylvester Stallone

Montegrappa, the Italian fine writing instruments manufacturer, will showcase a pen designed by Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone as well as a new ladies’ fragrance in Cannes next month.

The “˜Chaos’ pen from the Cult collection

Capitalising on the box office success of the film The Expendables 2 starring action star Sylvester Stallone, Montegrappa has unveiled the “˜Chaos’ pen. The pen is part of the company’s “˜Cult’ collection inspired and designed by the Hollywood filmmaker, writer and actor.

Described as a long-time aficionado and collector of Montegrappa pens, Stallone is the brand ambassador for the company and serves as the face of Montegrappa in its new advertising campaign.

Drawing inspiration for the theme and design of his signature pen from The Expendables, Stallone turned to classical art and worked with Montegrappa’s artisans to create the Chaos pen.

The pen design was said to be cultivated by the works of 16th century artists including Battista Franco, Albrecht Dürer, Hans Sebald Beham and Antonio Pollaiolo to create Stallone’s idea of chaos, defined as “a sense of the Renaissance, when things were more simplified and perhaps more noble, placed against our current technological society”.

The pen is fashioned from precious materials: the body of the pen is made of black pearlised celluloid with overlays in sterling silver or solid 18K gold. The overlays are finished by hand by Montegrappa’s craftsmen and feature an antiqued finish with accents in red and yellow translucent enamel to represent the colours of fire.

The pen design is characterised by the juxtaposition of life and death, with reptiles representing the early forms of life on earth, and the skull signifying death. The ultimate defining detail, bearing both a fist and a skull, is the pen’s clip in the form of a sword.

Chaos – pictured in our Moodie Magnifier below – is available as a limited edition of 1,000 fountain pens and 912 roller balls in sterling silver, which represents Montegrappa’s 1912 date of establishment.

Additionally, 100 fountain pens and 100 roller balls in solid 18K gold and 10 fountain pens and 10 roller balls in solid 18K gold with precious stones will be available for fans of both the screen legend and Montegrappa.

To complement this collection, Montegrappa’s craftsmen have fashioned an inkwell in rock crystal and sterling silver or solid 18K gold. The Chaos inkwell is available as a limited edition in numbers and materials matching the pens.

Nero Uno fragrance for ladies

Following on from Montegrappa’s Nero Uno fragrance for men, first presented in Cannes last year, the company has added a ladies’ fragrance to its portfolio.

Since its launch, the Nero Uno men’s fragrance has rolled out in various key markets, including the Middle East. The bottle shape was inspired by the octagonal faceted design of the Nero Uno product family, with the cap complementing the crowns of the pens, the bezels of the watches, and the design of the cufflink collection, turning Montegrappa’s Nero Uno line into a full lifestyle collection.

The new ladies’ fragrance remains true to the look and feel of the Nero Uno family. The bottle shape is once again based on the line’s signature octagonal design, but this time with a longer, thinner and more delicate form. The final feminine touch is the cap with a rose gold finish complementing the Nero Uno rose gold pens and accessories.

As with the male fragrance, Nero Uno for ladies was developed in Italy by Montegrappa’s master perfumers who drew inspiration from the Monte Grappa Mountain. This time the focus is on a sweeter and more floral composition which gives “a passionate, alluring, and unmistakably Italian feeling of confidence and unrestrained freedom”, the company said.

The Chaos pen, as well as both Nero Uno fragrances, will be showcased from 22-26 October at Montegrappa’s stand at the Majestic Hotel in Cannes. The company will also present its full range of lifestyle products, including pens, watches and accessories.
