Driving Shenzhen’s retail growth: China Duty Free Group (CDFG) launched its cdf Shenzhen Downtown Duty Free Shop on 26 August in partnership with Shenzhen State-Owned Duty Free Commodity Group and Shum Yip Holdings. The opening marks an important step in CDFG’s downtown expansion strategy, combining duty-free retail with culture and tourism while supporting Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area. Shaping Guangzhou’s retail scene: China Duty Free Group opened its first downtown duty-free store in Guangzhou on 26 August, representing a key step in its city-centre expansion strategy. Located in the Guangzhou Friendship Store and developed with local partners, the store reinforces the city’s status as a global consumption hub under the government’s extended travel retail policies. Duty-free dispute escalates: Incheon Airport’s terminals 1 and 2 duty-free contracts may go to rebid after the airport company missed a second arbitration session. The session was part of an ongoing dispute with incumbents The Shilla Duty Free and Shinsegae Duty Free, who are seeking a -40% reduction in their concession fees. Both may terminate their contracts despite KRW200 billion (US$144 million) penalties, with the court ordering non-binding mediation. Travel retail hits hard: The Estée Lauder Companies reported an -8% year-on-year decline for the full year ended 30 June, with travel retail accounting for nearly two-thirds of the drop. Positive developments in North Asia, Hainan and a new US Duty Free Americas agreement offer hope for recovery, while travel retail will now fall under the Asia Pacific division instead of EMEA. APTRA Northeast Asia Forum: The Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association has shared details of the Northeast Asia Forum, scheduled for 3-5 December in Hong Kong. Platinum host partners include Airport Authority Hong Kong and Hong Kong International Airport, Avolta and King Power as gold partners and Pernod Ricard as lead drinks partner, with additional partnerships to be announced. Protecting the blue: KOSÉ Travel Retail has advanced its SEKKISEI SAVE the BLUE conservation project with a mangrove-planting initiative in Hainan on 4 June. The event, held with Wangfujing Duty Free, Blue Ribbon Ocean Conservation Association and community volunteers, took place ahead of World Environment Day.
