Moodie Davitt WeChat platform breaks through 5,000 followers mark

CHINA. The Moodie Davitt Report’s WeChat Official Account has smashed another landmark, now attracting over 5,000 followers.

The Moodie Davitt Report is the only international travel retail media title to offer a WeChat platform. The service, published four times a month, complements the already strong and growing Chinese readership of our English language service.

The WeChat platform was launched in March 2021 and reached 2,000 followers in mid-January 2022. By August 2022, the number had grown to 3,000 and, six months later passed the 4,000 mark, a +33.3% increase. Today’s tally represents a +150% surge in follower numbers in just 11 months.

“To reach more than 5,006 followers with a B2B account in a single business sector is hugely encouraging,” said The Moodie Davitt Report Founder & Chairman Martin Moodie. “This underlines our commitment to the Chinese market and the value of our extensive, often exclusive coverage.

“That commitment is also reflected by our extensive physical presence in China, with a six-strong team spread across Hong Kong and Haikou, helping our mission to bring China to the world and the world to China.”

In May 2021, Martin Moodie’s extensive coverage of the Hainan offshore duty free sector was recognised by the Hainan International Media Center’s Overseas Communication Officers programme, when he was appointed to the honorary role of ‘Overseas Communication Officer’ by the Hainan International Media Center.

In August, Martin Moodie (third from left) was recognised for his and The Moodie Davitt Report’s s commitment to and coverage of Hainan’s offshore duty free sector by being appointed to the South Land Think Tank

This August he was appointed to a new multi-sector think tank in Hainan designed to drive the development of the island province’s Free Trade Port programme and its economic and social growth in coming years.

South Land Think Tank, dubbed the ‘Wisdom Tank’ was created by government-owned Hainan Daily Newspaper Group, the province’s leading media and communications group. The programme focuses on an ‘8+1’ concept – eight different research centres (one dedicated to tourism and offshore duty free) plus a studio.
