Award-winner: Moutai Small Batch Blend |
Moutai Small Batch Blend, a duty free exclusive product, has won a gold medal at the World Spirits Award competition (WSA) held in March 2012 in Austria. This is the first gold medal awarded to Moutai since 1915.
A press conference celebrated the Chinese spirits brand’s achievement on 27 March in Beijing, where WSA President Wolfram Ortner presented the award to Moutai General Manager Liu Zili at the prestigious Diaoyutai Guesthouse.
With the support of its international strategic partner Camus Cognac, Kweichow Moutai presented the Small Batch Blend to the WSA competition in Austria, where more than 70 fine spirits producers from over 30 countries showcased more than 500 products. Moutai stood out among the competitors for its enduring quality and belief, the company said.
Ortner said: “For the first time, we are honoured to include Asian spirits in our category; it not only enriched the global spirit family, but most importantly, enhanced the reorganisation and understanding of Chinese liquor culture within the international liquor arena.”
Cognac Camus President Cyril Camus added: “Moutai and Cognac are the two worldwide leading products of geographical indication (GI/AOC). They both share the same position and glory in the world. Duty free is a window into the world, a cradle to enhance the brands at an international level. I am honoured to help build a Chinese international brand jointly with Moutai.”
Moutai last won a gold medal in 1915 at the Panama Pacific International Exposition, held in San Francisco.
