Muscat Duty Free recognised with quality management award

Muscat Duty Free General Manager Tom Byrne and Finance Manager Shantha Madurapperuma greet the certification award

OMAN. Muscat Duty Free has been awarded the internationally recognised quality management ISO 9001-2008 certification.

“It has been a real team effort achieving this certification and we are delighted to have been awarded it. What makes it more special is that we have been awarded this across every department of Muscat Duty Free and not just one or two functions,” said General Manager Tom Byrne.

ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies.

Muscat Duty Free Finance Manager Shantha Madurapperuma added: “We consider achieving the internationally recognised ISO 9001- 2008 standards as a major step forward in embracing the concept of quality through continual improvement across all functions of the company. This has helped tremendously in improving our business processes, bringing in more discipline and consistency in how we operate the business, improving our staff awareness of best practices and achieving our targets with greater regularity.”

ISO 9001- 2008 mainly focuses on the effectiveness of the Quality Management System (QMS) in meeting customer requirements.

The objectives of the retailer’s project to gain the award were to enhance the credibility of the company and its processes, build customer satisfaction, and improve internal control systems and communication, operational efficiency and minimise business process risks.

Byrne noted: “Muscat Duty Free has always had strong processes and procedures in place and this accreditation reaffirms our commitment to a Quality Management System. What appealed to us specifically about ISO 9001-2008 was the importance of customer focus as an element of the accreditation criteria. At Muscat Duty Free, that’s what we are all about.”
