New Bahamas Florida Express seeks duty free operator

US. The Bahamas Florida Express fast ferry service, launched last November, is looking for a company to operate its duty free or supply logistics support.

The CAT service – established on 1 November 2002 – connects Port Everglades in Florida to Grand Bahama Island with a daily service on the two hour crossing. Ticket prices are significantly undercutting equivalent flight costs said the company.

“For the first time, travellers from around the world can arrive in Fort Lauderdale and make it to Grand Bahama Island on the same day in time for dinner,” said Bahamas Florida Express vice president George Bradley. “The new CAT brings more of the Bahamian islands to travellers.

“It is true to say we would like to talk to companies about the running of our duty free,” Bradley told The Moodie Report.

The CAT vessel – one of the fastest in North America – has a 900 pasenger capacity and features a TV movie lounge, casino, a café located in the centre of the passenger deck and a duty free gift shop with spectacular views from all sides of the vessel.

Bahamas Florida Express is a separate venture from previous high speed ferry services that have operated in the islands. The Bahamas-based company said it is pursuing the possibility of adding several additional trips per week to Nassau.
