New name and new design for pioneering US airport retailer EJE Travel Retail as Edward Janus Edward is born – 10/07/09

EJE Retail now becomes Edward Janus Edward

US. EJE Travel Retail, one of duty free’s most established retailers, has been renamed as Edward Janus Edward.

The name change coincides with the redesign of three airport stores and the opening of a fourth location at Newark Liberty International Airport.

The company operates duty free and duty paid stores at Newark Liberty International and Raleigh Durham International airports. It serves passengers of 22 airlines, representing 1.5 million enplanements per year.
In a statement the company said the name change was in tandem with a new brand image, which better reflected the nature of the retailer’s “distinctly cutting edge visual identity”.

Edward Janus Edward said the revamped image was more evocative of the stores’ luxury product offerings.

The name also pays homage to the company’s history. Founded by Edward (“˜Ed’) Holder in the early 1970s, one of the great pioneers of the US duty free business, the company developed the first gift store at Newark Airport. In 1978, when the airport needed a duty free outlet to qualify as an international operation, he expanded his operation accordingly.

The new image reflects a largely upscale offering

From modest beginnings the business became a multi-million Dollar operation employing 70 people. His nephew Janus Holder took over the company nearly ten years ago and Ed Holder passed away in September 2004..

The company said it retains its core values – “high-end merchandise at discount prices, without sacrificing integrity or service”.

CEO Janus Holder said: “Superior Customer Service, Superior Products, Superior Value – these are the guiding principles that have made us the airport retail destination of choice, offering the best brands, the best service and the best bargains to airport travellers for 37 years now. Our new slogan is “˜A World Class Shopping Experience’. And we mean it.”

EJE’s current brand portfolio includes Christian Dior, Bvlgari, Hermès, Mulberry, Ferragamo, Dooney & Bourke, Longchamp, Valentino, Calvin Klein, Chanel, Chivas Regal, Cartier, Omega, Gucci, Jack Daniel’s, Glenfiddich, Coach, Ferrero Rocher and Ghirardelli, among many others.

Edward Janus Edward claims to be the only 100% fully certified Airport Concessionaire Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE) company in the US to hold the required class IX Duty Free License from US Customs. It claims to have helped set the standards for ACDBEs across the country.
