INDIA. New routes and enhanced facilities at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, drove passenger traffic up by +7.3% to 12.86 million in 2013-14 compared to the previous year, according to Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL).
Average daily passenger numbers for airlines totalled 35,259, with seat load factors of 69% for domestic and 75% for international flights.
The number of domestic passengers increased by +7.8% rise to 10.23 million from 2012-13, with international volumes up +5.2% to 2.63 million for the same period.
BIAL Managing Director G.V. Sanjay Reddy said: “The growth in traffic is a sign for us that this is an airport of choice for domestic and international travellers. Our focus will be to continue providing our passengers and airlines a seamless and unparalleled travel experience at this airport. This trend also reaffirms our commitment of making Bangalore a gateway to South India.”

Growth of +12.7% was also reported in air traffic movements, to 118,575 in the year.
The airport added new domestic routes to the following destinations: Imphal, Agatti, Surat, Mysore, Pondicherry, Guwahati, Belgaum, Tuticorin, Indore and Dehradun. Air Costa also started domestic operations to Vijaywada and Jaipur. New international routes included Spice Jet’s service to Bangkok, which started last October.
Enhanced facilities include the opening of Terminal 1A last December, as previously reported. The opening of the new terminal coincided with the renaming of the airport from Bangalore International Airport to Kempegowda International Airport.
New services for passengers included a domestic transfer facility, making it easier for passengers to transfer through the airport, visa-on-arrival for visitors from 11 countries, including Japan, Singapore and New Zealand, as well as a porter service for passengers. New airport lounges in domestic and international terminals have also been added.
