New Thing to launch Dragons’ Den success Skinny Tan into travel retail

A self-tanning product which won the backing of two high-profile investors through UK television show Dragons’ Den will launch into travel retail, with the help of New Thing.

Skinny Tan featured on the show in August, with three “˜Dragons’ fighting for the right to invest in the product. Its co-founders, Kate Cotton and Louise Ferguson, eventually chose interior designer Kelly Hoppen MBE and technology entrepreneur Piers Linney as their partners.

The product, which has a 100% natural tanning active, has already sold well through the Skinny Tan website since then. The brand is already established in Australia as the fastest-growing tanning brand and is now in talks with major retailers across the UK and Europe.

New Thing will introduce the product into travel retail, with an exclusive for the channel already in the pipeline. Managing Director Duncan Murray-Clarke said: “With the self-tanning market booming we knew this was an area that we wanted to introduce to the travel retail sector and we looked for the right partner.

“We quickly identified that Skinny Tan was one of the most exciting things to happen to the self-tanning market for a long time and could see its exceptional potential for travel retail. We are excited to be working closely with such a fast growing and innovative brand.”

Skinny Tan claims to be the first tanner to combine natural tanning properties with a naturally derived cellulite active for a dual effect, helping reduce the appearance of cellulite. It also contours muscles and tone for a better bikini body instantly.

Kelly Hoppen said: “I knew as soon as I heard Kate and Louise’s pitch and tried the product that this was a brand to watch. It’s an amazing product and different to other tanners we currently have in the UK – The future is very exciting for us all.”
