Non-aeronautical revenues boost as Sino-Singapore (Hainan) Airport Commercial Management Co is launched in Haikou

CHINA. On a landmark day for Hainan’s airport sector, the joint venture between Hainan Meilan International Airport Co and Changi Airports International (CAI) was formally launched on 1 January.

A newco, called Sino-Singapore (Hainan) Airport Commercial Management Co, has been created. This follows the late 2024 hosting of the joint venture’s inaugural board meeting.

This week’s ceremony, held at Haikou Meilan International Airport T2, formalised the non-aviation business joint venture contract signed in October 2024.

As reported, the joint venture – in which Hainan Meilan International Airport Co owns 51% and CAI 49% – has exclusive rights to manage retail, food & beverage, advertising, leisure and commercially important-person services at the Hainan capital’s gateway for ten years, starting this month.

The ceremony was graced by Zhou Junping, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Hainan Holdings, who delivered a welcome speech. He was joined in an unveiling of a commemorative plaque by Wang Hong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Meilan Airport, and Changi Airports International Financial Director Tan Ee (Chen Yi).

The new company announced it would kick off 2025 with two high-profile promotional campaigns from 1 January to 22 February, themed ‘New Year’s Eve Carnival, New Year’s Day Gathering’ and ‘The Year of the Snake brings Fortune while Surprise Knocks on the Door’ in Haikou Meilan International Airports’ terminals 1 and 2.

Passengers will enjoy a range of consumption vouchers, preferential brand discounts and gifts for purchase.

For the 2025 Spring Festival travel period (14 January-22 February), Meilan Airport also launched a promotion offering free international and domestic air tickets and other gifts to the winners.

Passengers who spend a total of CNY2,998 (US$410) in Meilan Airport shops can participate in the ‘Scratch Lottery’ and ‘Blind Box Opening’” activities, and have the opportunity to win Haikou-Singapore round-trip tickets on Jetstar Airlines for two people; a free Hainan Airlines single ticket from Haikou to any city in China; airport-customised Year of the Snake items; store coupons and gifts.
