Noon Copenhagen presents a new take on time – 02/07/09

DENMARK. Danish watch brand Noon Copenhagen is poised to penetrate the Asian travel retail market with its colourful watch collections and patented design.

Launched in November 2008, Noon Copenhagen is now present in more than 200 shops in Japan, including Tokyo Narita Airport, and 300 shops in Germany.

In Asia, the brand has just signed up Taiwan and Hong Kong; it also has a presence in Singapore, where it exhibited for the first time at TFWA Asia Pacific last month. Here, Noon Copenhagen can be found in some of Singapore’s leading shopping malls such as Raffles City Shopping Centre, Wisma Atria and Tangs Orchard.

In travel retail, the inflight business is growing fast, the brand owner said, with listings on Air Berlin, Lufthansa, Condor Airlines and Austrian Airlines. It hopes to target Asian airlines and the wider duty free channel in the coming months.

Noon Copenhagen has appointed Jonathan Holland & Associates as its managing agent in travel retail.

A new angle on presenting time

Noon Copenhagen set out to build a watch brand based on an innovative and functional new way of presenting time.

Using a patented design that incorporates turning discs on the clock face, the result is a constantly changing coloured background – the hallmark of the brand. The other unique selling point of the brand is the wide range of colours available.

In 2007 Noon Copenhagen entered into a cooperation agreement with Henrik Sørig, a leading Danish industrial designer who has designed products for international brands including Bang & Olufsen of Denmark.

Sørig is the designer of the Noon Copenhagen collection presented at the premier watch show Baselworld. The line consists of innovative designs in materials such as titanium and stainless steel matched with rugged rubber and fine Italian leather.

Its closest competitor is Swatch, in terms of pricing, design and value for money, said Noon Copenhagen Chief Executive Officer Michael Slipsager.

Noon Copenhagen watches retail from US$55 to US$180, and come in more than 200 designs to date.
