NORWAY. Oslo Gardermoen airport company Oslo Lufthavn (OSL) has confirmed initial details of the tender to operate duty free at Gardermoen and four regional airports which is about to be published.
OSL commercial manager Roar Ødegaard told The Moodie Report: “It will be an exciting competition, with plans for a big percentage increase in the business. All the existing areas specified will be increased. For example the duty free space at Gardermoen will increase from 1,050sq m to 1,800sq m [11,298sq ft to 19,368sq ft].
“There are a lot of specified requirements put forward in the tender document that I can’t discuss, but generally we are seeking international operators with experience of this kind of business in Europe,” said Ødegaard.
Competition is expected from Oslo incumbent SAS Trading and The Nuance Group among others.
The seven-year contract will run from 1 January 2005 until 31 December 2011 and covers retail space at Oslo Gardermoen, Stavanger, Bergen, Trondheim and Kristiansand airports.
At Oslo the offer includes the main duty free shop in addition to two speciality stores. At Stavanger, the existing duty free area covers 243sq m (2,615sq ft), while Bergen has 282sq m (3,034sq ft), Trondheim 206sq m (2,217sq ft) and Kristiansand 88sq m (947sq ft).
The winning bidder will also be awarded a supply contract for duty free operations managed directly by Norwegian airport authority (and OSL owner) Avinor at Haugesund, Alesund, Bodo and Tromso airports.
The deadline for expressions of interest is 10 February 2004.
