NORWAY. Norwegian State Railways (NSB) would like to open a duty free liquor store at Oslo S, the capital’s central railway station, according to local reports.
NSB took over the train service between Oslo and Gothenburg on 9 January from Swedish-Norwegian train company Linx. The service to Gothenburg is an extension of the NSB regional service to Halden.
As Norway is not part of the European Union, passengers travelling in and out of the country by rail could shop at the duty free outlet, NSB said.
It believes that a store at the station currently operated by long-time Norwegian liquor monopoly Vinmonopolet AS could be transformed into a duty free outlet.
It had earlier called for rules to be amended so that it could start a duty free service on its international routes. At the moment, only airports, planes and ferries can offer duty free sales.
