Pandora opens flagship jewellery store at Sydney Airport; donates A$100,000 to Victoria bush fire appeal – 12/02/09

AUSTRALIA. Danish jewellery designer Pandora has marked its opening of a flagship store in Sydney Airport’s Domestic Terminal (T2) by making a A$100,000 (US$66,000) to the Red Cross Victorian Bush Fire Appeal.

The appeal has been set up to help those affected by the tragic bush fires that have raged through south east Australia in recent days, killing at least 181 people and wiping out communities.

Pandora has also announced that it will donate 15% of the retail price of its gold and silver Angel beads to the same appeal for the duration of 2009.

A proportion of the sales of the Angels beads will go towards the Victorian bushfire appeal

Pandora has grown from a small business in Denmark to a thriving international brand and is now sold in over 23 countries around the world.

Pandora Head of Sales & Franchising Penelope White said: “We are excited about opening a concept store in T2 in such a prime location. We have been overwhelmed with how well our collections have been received in Australia and we look forward to showcasing our beautiful designs to the millions of people who pass through the terminal every year.”

Sydney Airport Corporation Limited General Manager, Retail Derek Larsen said: “Pandora has enjoyed outstanding growth globally over the past several years and in Australia has achieved remarkable success in a relatively short space of time.

“Last year, Sydney Airport issued a Request For Proposal in the highly competitive jewellery category. Through Pandora’s innovative, unique designs and their popularity with Australian consumers, we were delighted to offer them an opportunity to open a store in the Domestic Terminal.”

T2 recently underwent a re-development that Sydney Airport Corporation said has made it “one of Australia’s finest domestic airports with an unsurpassed shopping experience”.

Larsen added: “As part of T2’s transformation the retail opportunities for both business and leisure travellers have been greatly enhanced. Our Domestic Terminal is now one of Sydney’s most engaging shopping destinations with 47 stores, including Veloce Espresso and Mimco, adding to an impressive retail mix.”
