Paramount Farms to make Cannes debut with exclusive pistachio range

Following a successful introduction to travel retail at TFWA Asia Pacific earlier this year, Paramount Farms is bringing its Wonderful Pistachio brand to TFWA World Exhibition with a new range developed exclusively for the industry (Stand Number: Blue Village G9).

The first time exhibitor aims to capitalise on the fast growing snack and sharing sector of the confectionery and food category with its line of healthy pistachio and almond products grown, processed and packaged in California, USA.

With domestically sold product already available in selected outlets in the Middle East, including Dubai Duty Free, Paramount Farms is now set to expand globally with a dedicated travel retail line.

New in Cannes will be two new exclusive pack sizes: a 300g pack of Roasted & Salted pistachios and a 275g pack of the award-winning Salt & Pepper pistachios.

Both items, available at a recommended retail price of US$9.50, will be offered in resealable stand up pouches and carry a global travel retail exclusive logo. Paramount will also be promoting its existing 510g gift bag which for travel retail will include a hang-tag with multilingual nutrition and ingredients details.

Paramount Farms Sales Director Australia/SE Asia James Kfouri said: “The snacking and sharing sector of the confectionery/food category within travel retail continues on an upward curve but currently the choices are pretty much restricted to sweet, chocolate-based products. There’s a real need to offer products that meet the demand for healthier savoury snacks which, at the same time, are still fun to eat and tasty.

“The Wonderful Pistachio brand is perfectly placed to meet that need, each portion offering a variety of vitamins, minerals and beneficial nutrients. Apart from appealing to consumers looking for smart, on-the-go snack choices, the product line is equally suited for gifting in its premium packaging formats,” he added.

A top seller in the US and available in more than 30 countries around the globe, the Wonderful Pistachio brand has an ambitious target for travel retail.

“We’re already listed with existing Wonderful Pistachio formats in Dubai Duty Free, Al Musbah in Saudi Arabia and Muscat Duty Free where the product sells very well,” Kfouri said.

“Our goal is to now expand distribution globally with our travel retail range, initially targeting key retailers in the Middle East and Asia, where there is a particular consumer demand for pistachios and strong gifting culture. From there we’ll focus on building sales in the Americas – where the brand is already well established domestically – and Europe.”

The new pack sizes are not available on the domestic market, giving retailers a point of difference.

“The pack sizes – at 300g and 275g – are perfect for the market and work well both for snacking and as a gift size. We’re now in the process of developing specific merchandising units for the range which will create further brand awareness and make self-selection very straightforward,” Kfouri added.

Paramount Farms is said to be the largest California grower of almonds, and also offers a Wonderful Almonds range of products. A selection of existing product formats will be on show in Cannes with a view to developing travel retail formats.

“We’re really excited about the brand’s potential success in the global travel retail channel and see a market not just through airport and other ground shops but also for inflight, both sales and onboard catering, cruise ships and ferries,” Kfouri said.
