Peller Estates launches limited-edition icewine with Nuance in Toronto

Peller Estates Icewine and The Nuance Group have launched a limited edition icewine, Brix 50, at Toronto Pearson International Airport. It is on offer for C$450 (US$360) per 375ml bottle.

Only 1,528 bottles have been produced, each hand numbered and available at Nuance stores in the airport.

Peller Winemaker Katie Dickieson hand harvested the Icewine grapes at 50 degrees Brix*, a temperature said to be a “once in a lifetime” low, during Canada’s recent cold winter.

The Icewine gets its name from the 50 degrees brix at which it was harvested

Andrew Peller Limited CEO John Peller said: “Nuance is a prized retail partner and operates best in class icewine boutiques in Pearson International Airport that service more than 11 million international customers each year. We are delighted to partner with them for the global launch of Brix 50. Those lucky enough to have been travelling through Toronto Pearson International Airport on 26 February had the chance to purchase the first bottles and participate in the celebration events.”

Nuance North America Vice President Buying and Merchandising Andy Rattner said: “We are pleased to be working with Peller Estates to share this exceptional wine that truly personifies the spirit of Canada and its people – perseverance through extreme conditions to unveil something extraordinary.”

*Degrees Brix (symbol °Bx) is the sugar content of an aqueous solution. Canadian icewine, measured in Degrees Brix, must reach a standard of 35. However, “the exceptional vintage of 2013 presented the opportunity to stretch the limits of winter winemaking”, noted Peller.
