AUSTRALIA. Perth Airport has awarded new speciality and food & beverage contracts for 11 stores at its upgraded Domestic Pier. This follows a Request for Proposal process that the airport said was “highly competitive”. The pier becomes home to Virgin Australia in late 2014.

The retail brands will include Rip Curl, Sunglass Hut, Amcal pharmacy, WHSmith and the Gadget Shop (also operated by WHSmith).

Adjacent to this will be a food & beverage precinct. This will feature a Hungry Jack’s and coffee shop called Toby’s Estate operated by Delaware North; Asian restaurant Noodles operated by Malaysian company PRC Airside; Salsa’s Fresh Mex Grill; bar and restaurant Long Neck operated by Red Rock Leisure and local chef Chris Taylor, plus Hudson’s Coffee (Emirates Leisure Retail) in Arrivals.

Domestic passenger numbers at Perth hit 9.9 million in financial year 2013, up by +9.1% year-on-year.

“Perth Airport’s new retail offer in the Domestic Pier will feature great service, improved choice and value for money,” said airport CEO Brad Geatches. “Having the right mix of retail and dining outlets was critical, given that the passengers in the new pier will range from fly-in fly-out workers to business and holiday travellers of all ages. Many of our customers are frequent flyers, so providing a range of dining options from fast food to international cuisine, as well as a restaurant with a menu developed by well-known WA chef Chris Taylor, was essential.”
