LEBANON. Long-time incumbent Phoenicia Aer Rianta Company (PAC) has won a four-year contract to continue managing duty free at Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport. It follows a tender which was held today.
The company last extended its concession for Beirut Duty Free in 2017. PAC is an alliance between Phoenicia Trading and Aer Rianta International.
We understand that PAC beat competition from another qualified local company, but that other international players who competed for the previous tender in 2017 did not take part. The current economic crisis and associated risks will have been a deterrent; the Lebanese Pound has fallen by around -90% in value over the past three years.
Lead partner Phoenicia was founded in Beirut, Lebanon by Mohamed Zeidan, and today operates across a range of diverse activities, from cigar distribution to travel retail and from tourism to food and real estate.
Phoenicia Group started its activities with the distribution of cigars on behalf of Cubatabaco (Empresa Cubana del Tabaco). Today, Phoenicia Group is one of the leading distribution partners for the Habanos joint venture that oversees sales and marketing for all Cuban tobacco products around the world.
