CANADA. HMSHost has partnered with NHL ice hockey team the Calgary Flames to open a sports-themed restaurant at Calgary International Airport.
Flames Grill is one of 50 new eating and shopping options at the airport as part of a two-year project that aims to improve the traveller experience.

The opening of the Flames retro-themed restaurant coincides with the ice hockey team’s 40th season celebrations. The Flames locker room is incorporated in part of the design while life-size images of past and present players feature.
“Bringing the hockey spirit of the Calgary Flames into the terminal and giving travellers a place to unwind and enjoy an exciting culinary experience with an elevated game day-inspired menu is something we are thrilled to do,” said HMSHost Vice President of Operations Neil Thompson.

“This is a restaurant that truly represents Calgary and we thank the Flames and Calgary Airport Authority for their partnership.”
The Calgary Airport Authority Vice President, Finance & CFO Rob Palmer commented: “Our goal is to bring the very best locally well-known brands to our guests. Welcoming the Calgary Flames and the same high level of customer service and culinary delights that you would experience during a Flames game at the Scotiabank Saddledome, will substantially enhance the variety of eating options at the airport.”

The Flames are owned by Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation (CSEC), who also own other Calgary-based sports teams including the Hitmen (junior ice hockey), the Stampeders (Canadian football) and Roughnecks (lacrosse). Flame Grill will incorporate special features based around these teams during their respective seasons. Season ticket holders of any CSEC teams will receive a -20% discount at the restaurant by showing their membership card.
“Flames Grill will provide Calgary travellers with the ultimate sports-themed dining experience each time they visit the airport,” said CSEC Vice-President, Food & Beverage and Information Technology Ziad Mehio. “While our priority is a relaxing environment during your travel day, sports fans won’t miss a moment of their favourite teams’ action with large TV screens keeping fans engaged in everything Flames including all live sporting events.”
