UK. Premium service airline Silverjet has announced a complete and immediate suspension of all operations.
A statement released today read: “It is with deep regret that the board of Silverjet has decided that it must suspend operations with immediate effect. The last service of Silverjet was the flight from Dubai to London Luton, which departed at 7.30 am (BST) this morning.”
On 23 May the airline said it had yet to receive the proceeds of a US$5 million drawdown request it made under its loan facility with Viceroy Holdings LLC. The company said its working capital reserves were limited as a result.
Silverjet said it was continuing discussions with potential investors interested in supporting the business – but it has yet to conclude these discussions to its satisfaction.
The troubled airline’s CEO Lawrence Hunt made a personal apology to customers on the company’s website. He said: “We extend our sincerest apologies to those of you who have travel plans with Silverjet in the future and at present. You are advised to seek alternative travel arrangements with other carriers, and contact your credit card company or travel agent directly for information on obtaining refunds.
“We are working actively with new investors who are prepared to inject new funds so we can recommence operations. If we are able to achieve this, we will make an announcement as soon as possible. Thank you for your support – it has meant everything.”
Silverjet is advising customers to seek refunds of unused segments of tickets from the point of purchase (credit card or travel agency).
