Pretty in (Thomas) Pink: Heathrow T5 unveils its latest unique retail concept – 22/11/07

“Pink customers will be able to shop, get refreshed, and keep up to speed with the markets”

UK. BAA has announced the opening of an innovative Thomas Pink store for the new London Heathrow Terminal Five, which opens next March.

The leading British brand, long established in all Heathrow’s existing terminals, will be revealing a unique individual design at the long-awaited new facility.

As well as having access to an exclusive T5 product range, the fashion-conscious business traveller will be able to take advantage of the Pink Business Bar. In a concept unique to the T5 store, the bar will be located in the centre of the store, offering mineral water whilst showing the latest FTSE reports from the London markets.

Shoppers will also be able to listen to music as they sip a drink and check the markets by making use of the Pink iPod facility.

Incorporating what it describes as “an exciting combination of retail merchandising and impeccable customer service”, Thomas Pink will be showcasing a new store environment created exclusively for the terminal. The store has been conceived to provide an express shopping experience, allowing passengers to drop in, pick out a shirt and catch their flight with the maximum convenience. A home delivery service is part of the offer.

BAA Retail Head of Fashion and Fashion Accessories Hazel Curry said: “We are delighted to announce this uniquely designed Thomas Pink store. By continuing to develop our well-established relationship we have created in partnership a store which is fresh, quirky and entertaining.

“We are confident Thomas Pink will provide customers with a very special shopping experience through their extraordinary customer service and exclusive products created especially for T5.”

Thomas Pink Managing Director Jonathan Heilbron commented: “Thomas Pink and the business traveller are a natural match – that is why we have already enjoyed such success at Heathrow Airport. Our exciting new store concept for T5 takes the Pink retail experience to a different level, marrying convenience with the quality and flair for which we have become famous.

“Pink customers will be able to shop, get refreshed, and keep up to speed with the markets so they will be fully primed to do business when they reach their destination.”

ABOUT HEATHROW TERMINAL FIVE

BAA’s Heathrow Terminal Five is due to open in March 2008. The £4.3 billion (US$8.8 billion) development – one of Europe’s largest construction projects and a new landmark for London – will cater for around 30 million passengers annually.

Terminal Five is working with a range of local and globally strong brands to create a new and exciting retail environment, with each store concept fulfilling the key criteria of being surprising, tempting and experience-enhancing. T5 will feature 144 different stores and restaurants.

It will incorporate 20,066sq m of retail space over two floors, predominantly airside. Remarkably, the development will increase the size of Heathrow’s retail portfolio by +50%. About 420 media sites will also be built into the fabric of the building.

From a traveller perspective the audience demographic is anticipated to be 92% ABC1 in profile, and T5 will be used exclusively by British Airways – domestic, European and international destinations.

Terminal Five will host 60 aircraft stands, a 4,000 space multi-storey car park and a new 600-bed hotel. It also benefits from a new spur road from the M25 and extensions to both the Heathrow Express and the Piccadilly Line rail services.

The Heathrow Retail Academy brings together BAA and airport retailers. It works with JobCentre Plus and local training organisations to help people in local communities secure retail jobs at the airport and gain qualifications once they are employed.
