Procter & Gamble set to resume sales of SK-II – 30/10/06

CHINA. Procter & Gamble (P&G) is set to resume sales in China of its premium SK-II range, which was temporarily withdrawn last month after authorities allegedly found traces of potentially harmful chemicals chromium and neodymium in certain products.

The company had insisted all along that its products were safe. That belief has now been vindicated following the Chinese regulator’s conclusion that the trace metals in the line pose no significant health risk.

A joint declaration released by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and the Ministry of Health confirmed that the neodymium and chromium detected in SK-II cosmetics came from raw materials, and only posed a minor hazard to consumers’ health if not used properly.

P&G said in a statement that sales of SK-II would be resumed in mainland China in the coming weeks.
