Pure Gold targets airport retail expansion amid robust growth

Pure Gold’s latest airport contract came earlier this year at Kuwait International

MIDDLE EAST. Leading gold and jewellery retailer Pure Gold is targeting expansion at airports in the Middle East and India after posting double-digit turnover growth in the channel in 2011.

The UAE-based company’s most recent contract gain was at Kuwait International Airport. Earlier this year it won the exclusive rights to operate the gold and diamond jewellery retail business on behalf of main duty free concessionaire Aldeasa That Es Salasil.

The company has a similar deal in place to manage the gold and diamond jewellery business for Muscat Duty Free, while last year Pure Gold extended its contract for these categories at Abu Dhabi International Airport, a business it originally won in 2008. That deal covers all terminals at Abu Dhabi Airport.

Speaking about the company’s ambitions in the channel, Chairman Firoz Merchant said his vision was for Pure Gold to operate most of the duty free gold and diamond stores in the Middle East by 2015, with plans to later extend to Asian markets. The retailer noted the rapid expansion of the Middle East travel and tourism market and the huge potential for sales to travelling consumers.
