Racke sells sparkling wine and spirits interests – 06/08/04

GERMANY. Racke Group has announced the sale of its sparkling wine and spirits section to fellow German company Henkell & Söhnlein. The deal excludes the Pott premium rum brand, which will remain in the hands of Racke.

The sales of the Kupferberg and Scharlachberg brands is currently being considered by German and Austrian anti-trust authorities but is expected be approved and implemented by 1 October.

Racke said it will continue its emphasis and strategic concentration on wine in a consistent manner. “Our core strategy is the further internationalisation of our wine brands. We are aiming to be the competent business partner in terms of wines of all price categories,” stated shareholder and Chairman of the Executive Board of the Racke Group, Marcus Moller-Racke.

The capital generated with this sale will be used by Racke to further extend its national and international wine business. “Growth should thereby be generated with the development of new brands as well as with new acquisitions,” said the company.

During the past 18 months Racke has developed a worldwide success with its joint venture brand Golden Kaan, in association with South Africa’s KWV group. Racke said that Golden Kaan has achieved a market leadership position in the German domestic market and is distributed on a worldwide basis.
