Rado celebrates 50 years with limited edition – 03/09/07

The Ceramica Chronograph’s matt appearance is designed to contrast with the gold and black metallised crystal

SWITZERLAND. To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Swiss watchmaker Rado has teamed up with designer Jasper Morrison to launch the limited-edition Ceramica Chronograph.

The Ceramica Chronograph is a contemporary restyling of Rado’s iconic Ceramica watch. Launched during the Baselworld 2007, it is said to be the first watch made entirely of ceramics.

In keeping with the brand’s history of producing black and gold models, the new collection features five tones of gold, from white to pink, each celebrating a decade of Rado.

Besides an updated colour range, the Ceramica Chronograph also features new dials and proportions, with the three counters redesigned and highlighted in gold.

The packaging, also designed by Morrison, is made of black leather and has no visible stitching. The chemical symbol representing the gold alloy of the model contained in the box – AuPd, Au2N, Au3N, Au4N or Au5N – is heat-stamped on top.

The special edition is limited to ten pieces for each of the five models in the collection.

Morrison’s next two projects for Rado include new packaging in Spring 2008 and a new watch in 2009.

The five limited edition variations by Jasper Morrison will be shown at the upcoming TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes (Stand number: Mediterranean Village HS1/HS1).
