Ritter Sport taps matcha trend for Zurich Airport exclusive with Avolta

Eye-catching and exclusive, the Matcha Strawberry flavour stands out on the shelf, offering a trend-driven treat for travellers

SWITZERLAND. German chocolate specialist Ritter Sport has teamed up with Avolta to launch the travel retail-exclusive Matcha Strawberry tablet at Zurich Airport.

The 100g format is available in limited quantities at the airport from 4-28 February, reinforcing the brand’s speed-to-market innovation strategy in the channel.

The new flavour reflects the expertise of Ritter Sport’s Buzz Team, recognised by its trend insight and its ability to quickly introduce product innovations to the market.

First launched as a Buzz Limited Edition in Germany, the brand’s Matcha Strawberry flavour sold out within a week in September 2025.

Responding to strong consumer demand, Ritter Sport and Avolta have reintroduced the flavour in a highly limited travel retail edition, designed to deliver trend-driven, discovery-led experiences for Gen Z travellers.

The latest offering combines crisp white chocolate infused with real matcha, a smooth yoghurt cream filling, and freeze-dried strawberry pieces with no added flavourings, creating a balanced taste and texture.

Renowned as a popular ingredient in drinks and snacks, matcha attracts younger consumers with its natural energy, antioxidants and distinctive flavour.

Ritter Sport has added a playful twist to the offering with the strapline: ‘I love you berry matcha.’

The launch was also designed to tap into the high-demand gifting period of Valentine’s Day.

The release is supported by omnichannel promotions across social media and airside/landside digital screens, driving maximum visibility among international travellers.

Avolta Global Head of Category for Confectionery & Food Philippe Moryl said, “This activation shows how Avolta uses innovation and limited editions to drive penetration, conversion and category growth in travel retail.

“Working with brands like Ritter Sport allows us to introduce on-trend flavours that refresh the offer and attract new customers, particularly in this case among younger, digitally engaged travellers.

Ritter Sport Managing Director Travel Retail Jan Pasold added, “Our collaboration with Avolta shows what is possible when two partners move decisively and in close collaboration from inspiration to activation. This is true partnership.

“Matcha Strawberry is a bold, contemporary flavour that reflects our ambition to lead with creativity and relevance in travel retail.

“Producing a global exclusive in such limited quantities makes this edition truly special, and we are delighted to offer travellers a fresh, modern Ritter Sport taste experience they can only find at Zurich Airport. We look forward to continuing this journey of fast, focused innovation together.”
