Robust international passenger growth drives KLIA in 2010

MALAYSIA. Passenger numbers at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) rose +14.8% year-on-year to 34.1 million in 2010, Malaysia Airports Holdings (MAHB) has reported.

International passenger volumes at KLIA grew by a solid +20.8% to 23.8 million in the year – outpacing domestic passenger growth, which rose +3.2% to 10.3 million.

Passenger numbers in MAHB’s other airports recorded growth of +9.6% to 23.7 million, driven by international passenger growth of +24.8% to 4.2 million. Domestic passenger growth saw a rise of +6.8% to 19.5 million.

MAHB is the operator and manager of Malaysia’s 39 airports which comprise international, domestic and short take-off and landing (STOL) airports. Besides KLIA the other international airports include Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Langkawi and Penang.

A total of 57.8 million passengers travelled through all Malaysian airports in 2010 – up by +12.7% from 51.3 million in the previous year.
