SINGAPORE. Singapore Changi Airport handled 4.54 million passengers in July, an increase of +4.0% compared to a year ago. Air traffic movements for the month grew by +6.9%, with 29,000 landings and take-offs recorded.
Strong demand for air travel to and from Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, Southwest Pacific and the Middle East contributed to the growth in passenger traffic for the month. Among Changi’s top ten cities, passenger movements between Singapore and Bali-Denpasar, Sydney, Taipei and Tokyo saw double-digit increases in July 2013.
For the period from January to July 2013, 30.8 million passenger movements were recorded at Changi, +4.9% more than the corresponding period in 2012. Aircraft movements increased in tandem, climbing by +4.9% to 196,000.

The passenger traffic trends will be of particular interest to those retailers that have been short-listed for Changi Airport’s blue-chip duty free concessions, following tenders which closed on 25 June.
As reported, Changi Airport Group will evaluate short-lists for both liquor & tobacco and for perfumes & cosmetics, with decisions likely by year-end. Both tenders attracted heavyweight international fields. The incumbents are DFS Group (liquor & tobacco) and Nuance-Watson Singapore (perfumes & cosmetics) in each of Changi’s terminals.
A CAG spokesperson told The Moodie Report: “We are pleased to have received high quality and competitive proposals in response to both of our concessions tenders. We appreciate the keen interest shown in the opportunity to operate at Changi Airport, and value very much the time, effort and investment that the participating bidders are putting into their bids.
“We are in the midst of evaluating the proposals and have short-listed our selection after careful deliberation. We expect to conclude the evaluation process for both tenders by the end of this year.”
