The awards ceremony aims to recognise outstanding performances by companies in the commercial aviation, defence and homeland security industries.

According to the organiser, Changi Airport was chosen for “demonstrating world class efforts in meeting the demands of all its end users – from airlines, passengers, cargo carriers to commercial non-travelling visitors.” It was selected among airports in the Asia Pacific region which handle more than 15 million passengers annually.

Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) Director-General and Chief Executive Officer Lim Kim Choon credited this award to the airport staff’s efforts.

“This award is an affirmation of the teamwork and dedication put in by all airport staff – the prime movers behind Changi Airport’s success,” said Lim. “It is also a testament to the success of various CAAS’s policies and initiatives that help to maintain Changi Airport’s status as one of the best airports in the world.”

He added: “I’m doubly happy and proud that CAAS’s subsidiary, Changi Airports International (CAI), has also gained international recognition as the winner of the “˜Airport Investment Company of the Year’ award this evening.”

This latest award is the fifth accolade received by Changi Airport so far for the year 2008.

Two of these awards were based on readers’ polls conducted by UK-based travel trade publications. Business Traveller magazine presented Changi with the “˜Best Worldwide Airport’ award for the third time, while Wanderlust magazine crowned Changi the “˜Top Worldwide Airport’ for the sixth consecutive time.

And last month, at the third Annual Readers’ Choice Awards organised by DestinAsian magazine, Changi topped the readers’ poll as “˜Best Airport in Asia Pacific’ for the third consecutive year.

Shortly after, CAAS won recognition as the “˜Airport Authority with the Most Supportive Approach to Travel Retail’ for the third year running at the Raven Fox Global Travel Retail Awards organised by Duty-Free News International and Travel Retailer International.
