Smarte Carte pioneered the airport luggage cart industry 40 years ago and is going stronger than ever |
Senior Vice President in charge of Business Development Arthur Spring said: “These are all major contract wins for Smarte Carte and demonstrate our ability to respond to the evolving needs of passengers and airports in North America.”
Smarte Carte, based in St Paul, Minnesota, pioneered the luggage cart industry 40 years ago and continues to lead the industry with innovative self-serve products and an emphasis on customer service. Today it has operations at over 1,000 transportation, shopping and entertainment facilities worldwide, including more than 150 North American airports.
Luggage carts are a popular passenger service today, but in 1967 (with the exception of a few international arrivals areas) they were not available at US airports.
Smarte Carte began providing the service at airports in Minneapolis/St Paul, Salt Lake City and Los Angeles with the belief that “helping people help themselves” would make travel more convenient and enjoyable.
While doing so, Smarte Carte introduced North American airports and air travellers to the convenience of self service long before concepts such as ATMs, airline check-in kiosks, and robotic kiosks became commonplace at airports.
