SPIRITS & WINES: The Dalmore and Gonzalez Byass collaborate on NPD

UK. Whyte and Mackay has announced a unique collaboration between The Dalmore and the world’s premier producer of fine sherry, Gonzalez Byass.

The Dalmore 1973 Vintage Gonzalez Byass Sherry Cask Finish is the first new product to be developed from a special cask finish line that will link The Dalmore with other prestigious drinks brands worldwide. The launch builds on the success with The Dalmore Cigar Malt, a distinctive, rich, after dinner malt whisky launched in April this year.

Whyte and Mackay travel retail director Andy Lane commented: “This is an exciting addition to The Dalmore portfolio and demonstrates how we are developing the range by link with world-renowned established drinks brands. The introduction of The Dalmore special cask finish range is critical in creating additional opportunities for sales of malt whisky.”

Gonzalez Byass is perhaps best known as the name behind the world’s best-selling sherry Tio Pepe. Amongst the many fine sherries produced in the legendary Gonzalez Byass bodegas in Jerez is Matusalem – a very old, sweetened Oloroso.

The aged casks used in the Matusalem maturing process have been hand selected to bring a distinctive finishing touch to this very special edition of The Dalmore 30 year old.

Lane continued: “With a heritage of sherry stretching back more than 160 years, Gonzalez Byass can only be regarded as the very best in the business and the 1973 testifies to a mutual respect between the two brands.”

The end product is an original expression of The Dalmore with a discreet age statement on the packaging. The limited edition format means that only 900 cases will be produced as a one-off, some of which will be distributed in travel retail. Key target markets will be 40+ males and all whisky enthusiasts in Whyte and Mackay’s core markets such as the UK, Spain, France and Taiwan.

The Dalmore 1973 Vintage Gonzalez Byass Sherry Cask Finish will have a RSP in travel retail of £89.99 (US$148).
