SSP secures major food & beverage contract at Tromsø Airport

NORWAY. SSP has secured a deal to operate seven new outlets at Norway’s Tromsø Airport. The new contract, which is valued at €75 million, will run for seven years from February 2014.

SSP currently operates all airside food & beverage at the airport, and the new deal means it will also operate landside F&B in the arrivals area.

SSP’s Italian-style coffee bar Caffè Ritazza will join the line-up at Tromsø Airport

The concessionaire will be introducing a number of new brands to the airport:

– Bakery concept Upper Crust: one of SSP’s most successful brands in the region.

O’Learys sports bar: the SSP-owned brand can also be found at Oslo Airport, Moss Airport Rygge, Trondheim, and the famous Oslo street of Karl Johans gate.

Point convenience store: SSP will open one airside unit and one landside unit. Developed specifically for the traveller, Point is also present in Sweden, Finland and Germany.

Caffè Ritazza: SSP’s Italian-style coffee bar can now be found at 150 locations in 22 countries worldwide.

Pizza Hut Express: offers American-style pizza. SSP already operates three Pizza Hut outlets in Norway.

The Northern Lights Bar: themed around the namesake natural phenomena for which Norway is famous, the bar is designed to create a “˜sense of place’ at the terminal.

SSP Norway Managing Director Morten Solberg Nilsen said: “We have worked with Avinor at Tromsø for nearly 50 years, and we are very pleased that this partnership is now to move forward into another phase.

“Tromsø Airport is Northern Norway’s leading airport, and we are extremely proud to have secured this prestigious and significant contract. The new business win strengthens our position in the Nordic region, and underscores our reputation as The Food Travel Experts in Norway.”

Tromsø Airport Commercial Director Ivar Helsing Schrøen added: “SSP proposed an outstanding selection of bars, cafés and restaurants that are ideally suited to our passenger demographic here at Tromsø Airport. Their approach is always highly professional, and their international experience is invaluable.

“They understand the travelling consumer, and the complexities of operating in the airport environment. We are confident that SSP Norway will continue to meet the high expectations of the airport and its passengers, and will play a pivotal role in driving the on-going success of Northern Norway’s foremost airport.’

Currently over 2 million passengers use Tromsø Airport every year, and the development of the oil and gas industry, the fishing sector and tourism in the region means this growth is set to continue.
