INTERNATIONAL. Here’s your latest chance of 2025 to win a great prize in our Strange Predictions* contest hosted by Strange Nature Gin of New Zealand, writes Martin Moodie. And we announce the winner of our latest contest.

This weekend we are turning our attention to both women’s and men’s rugby and two titanic contests (hopefully that doesn’t mean if you are a Kiwi like me you will have a sinking feeling).

The first is the Women’s Rugby World Cup final between hometown favourites the Red Roses of England and the Canucks of Canada, to be played at Twickenham, England on Saturday 27 September.

The second is the Bledisloe Cup men’s rugby showdown between the Wallabies of Australia and New Zealand’s All Blacks at Eden Park, Auckland, where the Kiwi side has not lost since July 1994.

We’re asking travel retail and aviation sector sporting pundits to pick the winners and scores of these epic match-ups.

As with all our Strange Predictions competitions, the winner will receive a bottle of the outstanding Strange Nature Gin, whose spirit base is drawn from Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Strange indeed.

As reported, Strange Nature was recently named one of the ten 2024 Gins of the Year at the prestigious International Wine & Spirit Competition.

Here are the prediction challenges:

  • Pick the winner of each match (or a draw): Red Roses v Canucks; All Blacks vs Wallabies
  • Pick the scoreline for each match
Strange Nature has proven a hit with Qatar Duty Free since being listed at Hamad International Airport in July
Like the All Blacks, Strange Nature is a hometown favourite in New Zealand. Pictured is the brand’s strong three-reference presence with Aelia Duty Free at Auckland Airport arrivals (above) and departures (below)

Rules:

    • Only entries from bona-fide members of the travel retail and aviation community will be accepted.
    • The winner will be judged first on correctly predicting the result (win/loss/draw) in each match after which those qualifying will be assessed on cumulative points differential for each game. So if, say, the Red Roses beat their Canadian rivals 24-15 and you predicted the English team to win 30-18 you would have a points differential of 9. The lower the total differential across both matches the better.
    • Only entries from bona-fide members of the travel retail and aviation community will be accepted.
    • Judge’s decision is final.

Send your estimate to: Martin@MoodieDavittReport.com headed ‘Strange Predictions – The Rugby Championship’ before kick-off of the first match (All Blacks vs Wallabies) on Saturday 27 September.

Announcing the previous winner

James Kfouri (left) will no doubt be toasting his latest success with Dermot Davitt in Cannes this weekend while cheering on his losing Wallabies

He’s done it again. Yes, Melbourne-based Wonderful Pistachios & Almonds Director of Sales, Oceania, SE Asia, CaSA & Global Travel Retail James Kfouri once more snapped up the prize in our most recent Strange Predictions contest hosted by Strange Nature Gin of New Zealand, albeit by the slimmest of margins.

Rumours abound that James is now considering opening a standalone Strange Nature pop-up at Melbourne Airport given his extensive supplies.

We asked readers to predict the results of the 6 September matches between the All Blacks and the Springboks and the Wallabies vs Pumas game.

The All Blacks won their contest (The Moodie Davitt Report does not discuss what happened the following week) 24-17, while the Wallabies won in the last seconds v Argentina 28-24.

James picked All Backs 28 – Boks 21 and Wallabies 32 – Pumas 25 for an excellent 13 points differential, just one ahead of ARI  Global Corporate Finance Lead John Wallace who went very close on the All Blacks/Boks result (he plumped for 26 – 19, a superb differential of just 4) but was slightly wider of the mark with his 31 – 17 win prediction for the Wallabies, a 10 point differential for a total of 14.

Strange Predictions

Strange Nature, the quirky super-premium New Zealand gin from Marlborough, which has gained impressive traction in travel retail and selected local markets since its launch in October 2021, is partnering with The Moodie Davitt Report in a pioneering readers’ competition called Strange Predictions.

The year-round programme features a series of predictive contests designed to test readers’ punditry skills across a myriad of events, ranging from sporting contests to political elections and other intriguing – and sometimes strange – events.

Strange Nature General Manager – Owner Rhys Julian said: “At Strange Nature we like to embrace the strange.  We consider our gin to be stranger than most, considering its grape origins, one botanical as well as sustainability and traceability credentials.

“Therefore, in fitting with the brand we thought partnering with The Moodie Davitt Report’s Strange Predictions was a perfect fit. A fun competition for everyone, slightly left of centre, is very much our vibe.”
