With a focus on sustainability, Irish family-owned Butlers Chocolates is upgrading one of the brand’s most popular packaging formats.
New, fully recyclable paper packaging for its popular twist-wrapped truffles will be introduced this year. According to Butlers, this will contribute to a reduction in approximately 15 tonnes of waste annually.

“This project has been thoughtfully planned as part of Butlers Chocolates’ ongoing commitment to more considered and progressive environmental and sustainable practices across all areas of the business,” the company stated. It reflects its dedication to “doing what’s right for the planet” and builds on other sustainability commitments, including:
- Solar panels on Butlers’ factory roof which account for over 20% of the factory’s annual power requirements
- Sustainably sourced cocoa and Fairtrade coffee
- Move to electric vehicles
- Sustainable packaging: The ribbons on Butlers Easter Eggs are made from recycled plastic bottles and packaging is fully recyclable. Recent years have seen a move from recyclable plastic to paper for Easter egg packaging.
- Zero palm oil in any Butlers Chocolates products
- Zero waste to landfill at the factory.
Butlers Chocolates Managing Director Karl Marnane commented: “We are very pleased to announce this major development today as part of our continuing sustainability initiatives. It represents a meaningful commitment to the environment and our impact on it.
“There has been significant effort and hard work in the background to get to this point and as a team, we are very proud to make this change.” ✈️
