Swatch partners with Zürich Airport for live artwork installation and campaign

SWITZERLAND. Zürich Airport is being turned into an artist’s studio in a new campaign from watchmaker Swatch.

French-American artist Stephen Dean has installed an “airborne”, or suspended, work of dichroic glass, aluminium and light as part of the “˜Swatch Loves Art – Zürich AirPainting’ event, with passengers able to create their own artwork on a large canvas in various “˜Swatch areas’ throughout the airport.

A pop-up store has been set up in the Airport Center featuring a selection of the latest Swatch watches from the company’s current collection.

The installation will run until 27 September 2015, and also features eight young Swiss artists working “live” at the airport competing to win one of two Swatch Awards. Starting with a blank canvas, each artist will be given four hours to complete a painting.

Social media can be used to vote on the paintings, with all those entering having the chance to win a watch from Swatch’s new Grüezi All collection – which is said to embody the overall theme of the airport art, “Swissness”.

The art project was launched at the end of August and will run for four weeks
