SYRIA. The General Customs Department has asked the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade to study the establishment of joint Syrian-Turkish border duty free shops.
Local reports said the opening of such shops was proposed by Turkish Customs authorities at a meeting between Customs officials of the two countries earlier this month.
Syria’s General Customs Department has requested the preparation of a study which will enable travellers to bring goods for personal use of up to 15,000 Syrian pounds (US$357), removing the current 3,000-pound (US$71) ceiling.
