T2 begets ‘Titu’ as Mumbai Airport launches pioneering new App

Passengers through GVK Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport T2 are offered an upgrade to smarter travel through the airport’s new App

INDIA. GVK Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) in Mumbai has launched what it claims to be India’s most advanced indoor navigation App for passengers passing through the spectacular new Terminal 2.

The colourful and brilliantly named peacock Titu (as in T2) is the new App’s mascot

“˜Mumbai T2 App’, with augmented reality features, is designed to assist travellers via an interactive walk-through experience. The App, which has the colourful Titu (as in T2) peacock as its mascot, plays a navigation guide with user-friendly technology, helping travellers locate what they need at the airport through a one-click process.

Passengers travelling on any airline through T2 can get flight information through the push notification system. The App works on an innovative platform developed by Indoor Atlas and iBeacon technologies to offer magnetically modelled maps and provides location-based information using 3G/4G connections, or the free Wi-Fi service available at the airport.

Mumbai International Airport Limited Chief Executive Officer Rajeev Jain said: “We constantly endeavour to provide world-class facilities at T2, and always strive to make it as easy as possible for air travellers to discover them.

“With the Mumbai T2 App, travellers can design their own customised experiential tour with a single click. Moreover, we being a “˜silent’ terminal, cutting down on public announcements, the App will be a very handy tool for passengers to keep track of their flight schedules through constant notifications.”

The App is compatible with Apple and Android phones and tablets, and can be downloaded free from the iOS App Store and Google Play Store. Developed by Next Byte Wave Technologies, the App connects to the airport’s Flight Information System to provide updates on flight status and changes in departure time through a notification starting a day prior to the flight.

Mumbai International Airport said the T2 App will be regularly updated to include international departures and arrivals, domestic flights, taxi booking services and a virtual walk-through experience of various sections of the airport including the Jaya He GVK New Museum, featured recently in the Moodie Report e-Zine Issue 175.
