Tallink-Silja Line fires up Tallink Shuttle service with launch of the M/S Superstar – 12/03/08

ESTONIA/FINALAND. Tallink-Silja Line is set to commence operations of its newest high speed vessel, the M/S Superstar, on the Helsinki-Tallinn route on 30 April.

M/S Superstar, together with the M/S Star delivered in Spring 2007, will jointly operate as the Tallink Shuttle service. Tallink Shuttle is the new service concept “combining fast and comfortable travel between the two capital cities,” said the company.

Going green: The M/S Superstar is designed to be more environmentally friendly

The Tallink Shuttle vessels are designed to be more environmentally friendly, characterised by the green colour of their hulls. Both vessels consume less fuel, have modern technical solutions and create smaller waves compared to smaller high speed crafts, according to the company.

Built in the Fincantieri shipyards in Italy, M/S Superstar was designed by Italian interior designers Carlo Ciribi and Alessandro Cestaro. At 175m long and 28m long, the vessel has ten decks and can hold 2,080 passengers.

The highlight of the ship’s interior design is the show-bar located in the fore which goes through three floors and has a large glass wall. Similarly, the stern also features a bar going through two floors and having a glass wall.

Onboard facilities include restaurants and cafés, including an a la carte restaurant, two buffet restaurants, a pizza restaurant, a hamburger café, and an ice-cream corner for children. There will also be a children’s play corner, a sun-deck bar, a casino and a business lounge.

In addition, M/S Superstar houses shops which sell items ranging from groceries, alcohol, the latest cosmetics and clothes to fashion accessories.

The shipping line expects to benefit from recent trends in the passenger mix. “We are happy to see that we now have a larger percentage of Russian travellers onboard – 5% on the total fleet,” said Tallink-Silja Line Duty Free Sales Purchasing Director Magnus Skjörshammer.

“This is good news as many are 20-something Russians with good income, and high spending. We see the stable development in Russia very positive for this region.”
