TURKEY. TAV Airports has taken over operational management of the domestic terminal at Milas-Bodrum Airport, following the signing of a concession agreement with state airport authority DHMI.
As reported the company was granted a 20-year concession to manage Turkey’s sixth busiest airport. TAV will take over the management of the international terminal on 22 September 2015.
The €717 million (plus VAT) deal adds a fifth airport to TAV’s Turkish portfolio, which already includes Istanbul Atatürk, Ankara Esenboga, Izmir Adnan Menderes and Antalya Gazipasa airports.
The company won an auction against three other consortia – incumbent operator Astaldi, YDA Construction and a Fraport-led group – conducted over 105 rounds of bidding.
TAV Airports President & CEO Sani Şener said: “Milas-Bodrum Airport connects one of Turkey’s most significant tourism centers to the rest of the world, with the current number of annual passengers exceeding 3.5 million. We will be transferring our know-how, gained through operating 14 airports in seven countries, to Bodrum.”
“We believe that Bodrum will become the fourth largest city in Turkey within the next 15 to 20 years. With the experience and network that it currently possesses, TAV will comfortably increase the number of passengers to 10-15 million within the operation period.”
Milas-Bodrum opened to international traffic in 1997 and is one of the busiest airports in the Aegean region of Turkey. The airport is located in the province of Muğla, 32km from Bodrum and 12km from Milas.
