The Hainan Expo interview: William Grant & Sons China

CHINA. The second China International Consumer Products Expo (Hainan Expo) is less than three months away and once again is on course to be a blockbuster success.

The event, hosted by the Hainan Provincial Bureau of International Economic Development (Hainan IEDB) will be held from 12 to 16 April in Haikou, Hainan’s capital city. The Moodie Davitt Report is working closely with Hainan IEDB and our strategic partner in Hainan, Hainan Hinews Media Co, to provide dedicated coverage leading up to and during the event.

Today we feature comments from first-time exhibitor William Grant & Sons China.

“We are showcasing some of our rarest liquid to Chinese consumers. We are strongly committed to the luxury market and we will continue to recruit new consumers with our core range products.

Established in 1887, William Grant & Sons is an independent, family-owned distiller with a global reach and deep Scottish roots.

The company’s portfolio includes eight core brands: Glenfiddich, Grant’s, The Balvenie, Tullamore D.E.W., Drambuie, Hendrick’s Gin, Sailor Jerry Rum and Monkey Shoulder.

The Moodie Davitt Report: What prompted your decision to exhibit at the 2022 Hainan Expo?

William Grant & Sons China: Hainan Expo provides an important platform for the display and trade of global consumer goods. The 2022 Hainan Expo is going to improve the quality of international brands at the event, and enhance the international level of the exhibition. As a first-time exhibitor, William Grant & Sons – run by the fifth generation of the founders family with over 130 years heritage – feels very excited to introduce our brands and product portfolio to the Chinese consumers.

What do you hope to achieve through exhibiting?

Our founder William Grant established our company in 1887. His vision was to make the best dram in the valley, and it stands true today as we build brands that are loved the world over.

William Grant & Sons entered the China market in 2006 and have made a long-term commitment to continue our founder’s vision. That is to bring the best dram for Chinese consumers and to be part of every celebratory moment.

Luxury allure: Glenfiddich 50 Year Old

What can visitors to the Expo expect to see from you at the event?

The second Hainan Expo will continue to focus on new hi-tech, high-quality consumer goods.

So, as a luxury alcohol and beverage company we are not only introducing our renowned Glenfiddich, The Balvenie, Monkey Shoulder & Hendrick’s brands at the Expo, but also highlighting some limited-edition, ultra-rare, and high-aged single malt whiskies including Glenfiddich Time Series 50 Year Old, Grand Series and The Balvenie 50 Year Old, Rare Marriage Series and Story Series.

Sum up  the importance of the Hainan market for your company.

Hainan has assumed its new role as a Free Trade Port, pioneering policies facilitating free and convenient trade in goods and services. This demonstrates China’s firm commitment to further opening up and sharing business opportunities with the rest of the world.

The China economy is steadily recovering and seeing long-term upward momentum as the pandemic has been effectively controlled. Luxury consumption in China is continuously booming and forecast to account for about 45% of global sales in 2025.

Glenfiddich has just released a travel retail-exclusive expression of its Gran Reserva 21 Year Old Single Malt. The limited edition features a Chinese New Year-themed gift pack designed by acclaimed illustrator Rlon Wang.

With William Grant & Sons’ debut at the Hainan Expo, we are showcasing some of our rarest liquid to Chinese consumers. We are strongly committed to the luxury market and we will continue to recruit new consumers with our core range products.
