JAMAICA. The Marley Natural Dispensary has opened in The Bob Marley Museum in Kingston, Jamaica, with leading airport commercial designer The Design Solution a key partner. The project is described as a ‘radical new twist’ to the usual museum retail experience.
Designed as a cannabis dispensary store concept and commissioned by The Bob Marley Group of Companies, The Marley Natural Dispensary is a celebration of the Rastafarian reverence for cannabis.
The project was designed by Jamaican-based architect Christopher Whyms-Stone and The Design Solution and seeks to add an authentic Rastafarian element to the Bob Marley Museum experience. The dispensary is also the first physical store space in Jamaica to offer the Marley Natural line of legal cannabis products.
The dispensary is dressed in lush green planters and natural elements, an aesthetic that pays homage to Marley’s love for the natural world. Locally sourced natural wood textures and finishes feature throughout the space, balanced by natural concrete flooring. The space is relaxed, contemporary and features a new smoking lounge, complete with wooden tables and seating areas. The dispensary is decorated by colourful vinyl record-based artworks crafted by local artisans, which honour the legacy of Jamaica’s most famous musician.
The Design Solution’s John Clarke commented: “We’re honoured to have worked with the Marley Group of Companies on the development of The Bob Marley Museum and this innovative design brief to facilitate the physical dispensing of Marley Natural with a sense of authenticity in the materials used combined with a stylish and sensitive manner that respects the Marley Family heritage.
Representing The Bob Marley Group of Companies, Stephen Marley added: “There is a great vibe at the Marley Natural Herb House. The natural feel elevates the senses and provides a comfortable, relaxed environment to experience the positive power of the herb.”
