The Moodie Report e-Zine 28 February 2013: live and online now

INTERNATIONAL. Welcome to The Moodie Report e-Zine for 28 February 2013.

Our cover story comes from Taiwan where The Moodie Report Chairman Martin Moodie was on hand at Ever Rich Duty Free Shop’s 18th anniversary celebrations. These included a memorable Gala Dinner, the Grand Opening of the retailer’s downtown Duty Free Plaza in Neihu, Taipei and a visit to the Kinmen Islands where Ever Rich previewed a major retail complex and hotel that it will open in phases over coming years. The anniversary events also saw the unveiling of a new book published by Moodie Corporate‘Ever Rich at 18 – Towards a Bright Future’ , which profiles the company’s history and unique business philosophy.

In this week’s edition of our weekly travel retail briefing, we muse on a moment of uncertainty for Incheon International Airport’s duty free line up; we analyse the return of Motta Internacional to Ecuador; and we look into the commercial factors behind Sydney International Airport’s strong performance in 2012.

In our new weekly column in association with the Wild Geese Collection, we celebrate the Irish men and women of travel retail as Ireland hosts The Gathering – a year-long reunion of its sons and daughters abroad. This week we speak to one of the early pioneers of Middle East travel retailing, Dubai Duty Free Executive Vice Chairman Colm McLouglin.

Our regular infographic section presents a global airport retail update this week, featuring some of the airports to have presented their 2012 results. An encouraging picture is emerging, and one The Moodie Report will track closely in the coming weeks.

We close as always on the Front Line, our celebration of the best of customer service in global travel retail. This week we’d like to tell our readers about Philip Stanley, a long-serving sales assistant at Dubai Duty Free known affectionately to his colleagues as “˜Mr Nice Guy’.
