Swarovski, Thomas Sabo, Samsonite and Victorinox have begun trading on Level 1 of Zürich Airport’s Airside Center |
SWITZERLAND. The Nuance Group has unveiled a flurry of store openings at Zürich Airport – the biggest expansion of the retailer’s business in Switzerland since Zürich’s Airside Centre opened in 2002.
Following the opening of a new Boutique du Chocolat in February, the Airside Center has seen the opening of six further specialist boutiques, with another to follow. Some 1,600sq m of new speciality retail space is being added to the retailer’s portfolio, bringing the number of shops operated by Nuance at the airport to 41.
Nuance and its confectionery partner Lindt have opened a new 25sq m Boutique du Chocolat at the Airside Center’s Level 1. Like the first boutique, on Level 2, the new outlet features a chocolate kitchen where passengers can see a master chocolatier at work.
Nuance opened six new fashion and accessories concepts in March and April on Level 1 of the Airside Center. These included Victorinox, which offers a selection of the brand’s watches and top-line luggage; Caran d’Ache, offering prestigious writing instruments; and a Samsonite Black Label store, which features the brand’s exclusive Black Label collection.
A 30sq m Porsche Design concept store offers men’s accessories, including a full assortment of travel accessories, luggage, watches, sunglasses, clothing, mobile phones and writing instruments.
The fifth and sixth new stores which opened this Spring are a 45sq m Swarovski boutique and a Thomas Sabo store covering 30sq m.
May 2008 will see the opening of an 85sq m Montblanc store, which, when completed, will be one of the brand’s largest stand-alone stores in Europe.
Away from its airside offer, Zürich Airport is also expanding its landside presence. On 17 April, the new Plaza landside shopping precinct officially opened for business, with four more Nuance concepts: a 180sq m multi-brand fashion concept featuring Tommy Hilfiger, Pepe Jeans, Levi’s and Diesel on the upper level; a Cult fashion accessories concept featuring Gucci, Prada, Kipling and Guess on the lower level; a 125sq m Mango franchise store; and a 600sq m Esprit outlet, the largest travel retail shop for the brand.

The Nuance Group Managing Director Switzerland Stephan Salvisberg commented: “We are truly pleased about our sizeable contribution to the further development of Zürich Airport’s already outstanding shopping offer. We have worked hand in hand with our partners at Unique Zürich Airport to design an offer tailored to the specific needs of each target customer group, always supporting the airport in its endeavour to create a distinctly Swiss flavour through its offer.”
He continued: “Our new landside concepts in fashion are an excellent example for how fashion retailing can be taken to the next level in travel retail. As for Porsche Design, it’s interesting to know that the area around Zürich, particularly to the north of Lake Zürich, boasts the highest density of Porsche cars per capita worldwide. We are convinced that this concept store targeting Porsche lovers and discerning travellers in general will offer a refreshing new option for shopping at Zürich Airport.”
Unique Zürich Airport Head of Marketing Retail Patrick Graf continued: “Our smooth and very productive co-operation with The Nuance Group has significantly contributed to our being able to expand our shop offer by introducing strong innovative concepts such as Porsche Design and Mango. Our airside offer has traditionally been very attractive and is increasingly becoming so; by expanding our landside shopping precinct with highly popular concepts, we are further establishing the airport as a prime shopping location.
“All in all, the new additions to our shop portfolio have made Zürich Airport the second biggest shopping center in Switzerland – we look forward to further building on this success.”
