INTERNATIONAL. Ultimate Beverage Challenge has revealed the world’s top 100 spirits of 2020, as judged by a panel containing some of the world’s foremost spirits authors, educators, bartenders, journalists and consultants.
Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Straight American Rye Whiskey from the US emerged as the number one spirit under the wide-ranging judging criteria. George Bowman Caribbean Dark Rum, also produced in the US, and Glenrothes 18 Years Old Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky claimed second and third places respectively.
The roster of spirits in the competition, known as the Ultimate Spirits Challenge (USC), included brandies, whiskeys, gins, vodkas, tequilas, liqueurs, rums, baijius, mezcals, vermouths, aperitifs and ready-to-drink cocktails.
USC Judging Chairman F. Paul Pacult, said: “Every spirit included on the USC top 100 list for 2020 scored an aggregate rating of at least 94 points throughout USC’s rigourous, weeks-long process of multi-stage judging this past June and July.
“The USC top 100 spirits of 2020 is an astonishingly diverse and comprehensive list of blue-chip spirits, hailing from all corners of the world. All of them are exemplary spirits of world-class quality.”
